Poilievre and Baird raise nearly $40,000 to help
re-build Manotick Legion
Nepean-Carleton - Pierre Poilievre, MP and John
Baird, MPP presented a cheque today for $38,378.98
to Peter Partner, President of the Manotick Legion
at the TD Canada Trust on Mitch Owens Road.
These dollars were raised from the "Kick Off Fundraising
BBQ" held in July, along with donations collected
from local businesses and generous Legion supporters.
Money raised will go towards helping to rebuild the
Legion and replace Cadet equipment which was destroyed
by the fire in June.
"We have been truly humbled by the community's kind
generosity and energized to continue the rebuilding
efforts of this community meeting place that holds
such an irreplaceable spot in the hearts of the local
citizens" said Poilievre.
"The outstanding response by the community is a
testament to the vital role that the Legion holds
in Manotick. The constituents of Nepean-Carleton
have answered our challenge loud and clear," said
John Baird MPP.
The Manotick Legion Fundraising Committee is continuing
the fundraising efforts. The committee is busy planning
events throughout the fall. Donations are being accepted
at the TD Canada Trust, 5219 Mitch Owens Rd, 692-1350.
